Some heavily-armed militants on Saturday stormed a five-star resort in Pakistan’s port metropolis of Gwadar in the restive Balochistan province, law enforcement mentioned.
A shootout was underway at the Peal Continental Resort soon after a few to four armed militants entered into the facility, Dawn news quoted Gwadar Station Property Officer Aslam Bangulzai as saying.
There was no quick studies of casualties.
All overseas and nearby guests staying at the lodge have been securely evacuated, Convey Tribune quoted Balochistan Information and facts Minister Zahoor Buledi as indicating.
Navy and military soldiers are carrying out the operation, resources explained.
“At about 4:50 pm (nearby time) we received stories that there are 3 to four armed males in Computer Resort,” the officer reported.
Frontier Corps personnel have cordoned off the hotel, DawnNewsTV reported citing law enforcement sources.
The resort, frequented by small business and leisure travellers, is located on the Koh-e-Batil hill, south of West Bay on Fish Harbour road in Gwadar.
On April 18, unknown gunmen donning uniforms of paramilitary soldiers massacred at minimum 14 travellers, like Pakistan Navy personnel, immediately after forcing them to disembark from buses on a freeway in Balochistan.
Balochistan, which borders Afghanistan and Iran, is Pakistan’s greatest and poorest province, rife with ethnic, sectarian and separatist insurgencies.
China is investing seriously in Balochistan beneath the USD 50 billion China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).
The CPEC, introduced in 2015, is a prepared network of roads, railways and electricity initiatives linking China’s resource-wealthy Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region with Pakistan’s strategic Gwadar Port on the Arabian Sea. @PTI
