Delhi HC refrains from hearing plea to bar Farooq, Omar, Mehbooba from LS polls

NEW DELHI: The Delhi Superior Court Friday refrained from listening to a plea searching for path to the Election Commission to bar Jammu and Kashmir politicians Farooq Abdullah, Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti from participating in the Lok Sabha election as they have allegedly made “seditious ” statements.

The court questioned the petitioner to transfer the appropriate discussion board with his grievance soon after which the petition was withdrawn. “Dismissed as withdrawn,” claimed a bench of Justices S Ravindra Bhat and Prateek Jalan. The petition filed by a attorney alleged that the “seditious and communal statements” specified by the three leaders were being against the Constitution, adding that the court or the EC ought to bar or impose ailments on their entry into the Lok Sabha. All the a few leaders are previous main ministers of Jammu and Kashmir.

The petition has arrayed the EC, the Union of India, the Delhi Police, Countrywide Convention (NC) president Farooq Abdullah, his son Omar Abdullah and Peoples Democratic Bash (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti as functions to the petition. “Issue instructions to the respondent variety 1 (EC) to ban the NC and the PDP from Lok Sabha election 2019 as respondent number 4 and 6 (the three leaders) are presidents of their respective functions and represent their events and their ideologies,” it alleged. “Will it not be a mockery of democracy to allow for these folks and parties to take part in the Lok Sabha election when people today/parties brazenly simply call for sedition to divide Mother India on the basis of faith (Muslim vast majority) and two primary ministers (for Jammu and Kashmir and the relaxation of India),” it explained.
